Today about 95% of the world's diamond supply is mined in South Africa.
However, diamonds are still mined in South America, Australia, Russia
and Canada.
Diamonds may be buried for thousands of years before being excavated
from blue rock (blue rock can be found up to 75 miles deep in the
earth), or they may be released through the process of erosion and
re-deposited in alluvium, forming alluvial (riverside) deposits.
Diamonds can also be found in "yellow ground which is 50 to 60 feet into
the ground.
Cleaning Your Diamonds:
A solution of one part ammonia and six parts water can be used to clean
diamond jewelry at home. If you are going to clean your diamond by hand,
gently scrub with a soft brush. This should loosen most dirt and greatly
increase the brilliance of the diamond, but be careful not to scratch
the metal of your setting.
Storing:
If you store your diamond, do not store it with other diamonds, since it
may scratch. Keep it in the original box or a soft cloth pouch in order
to avoid scratches.
